Solomon King Biography

Solomon King grew up in Toronto, Vancouver and the northern Native community of Nayaashiinigmiing. An Ojibway, King, who spent his thesis year studying art in Florence,Italy. Recently, graduated with his BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design. Influenced by Ojibway painter Daphne Odjig and West Coast carver Bill Reid, King creates art work with both Native and Western themes. "I believe the styles do deserve a place together," he says. "In my art the main objective is to create work that transcends my culture and becomes a means of exploration and beauty," writes King in his artist statement. Although King's main medium's are acrylics and oils, he has also created sculptures out of stone, bronze and wood.
