About this Site
The Ontario Aboriginal Calendar and Directory of Aboriginal Service
Organizations are pilot projects of 211Ontario.ca,
funded by the Federal Youth Justice Renewal Funds. The web-based
calendar and service directory are online services designed to help
people connect with Aboriginal services, events and organizations
in Ontario and are accessed through a portal from 211Ontario.ca.
"For some time now the Aboriginal community in Ontario
has had a need for a comprehensive and current directory of related
services available to them throughout the Province. In addition
to this, a single source of community related events, whereby we
may post upcoming Pow-Wows, Visiting Elders, Council meetings or
training workshops would serve us well. I look forward to this pilot
project, and I strongly believe that our participation and the outcomes
will greatly benefit future generations."

Ontario Aboriginal Calendar
The Ontario Aboriginal Calendar is designed to support community
postings of programs, news, resources, events and workshops of interest
to the Aboriginal community specifically and to related service
providers. This community based calendar will be augmented by a
Directory of Aboriginal Service Organizations in Ontario.
The calendar can be used to:
• Promote events, such as workshops, celebrations, guest speakers
• Submit news items, such as program announcements, new programs
or new research
• Share resources of interest to the Aboriginal community
All submissions are previewed by an editor before being posted
to the calendar.
The calendar, part of the Content-Sharing Constellation project
led by ACTEW ,
is an innovative approach to sharing information online across Ontario’s
voluntary sector. Anyone can post news items, workshops, events,
resources and programs, and all postings are automatically shared
with web sites of many other community-based training organizations.
Directory of Aboriginal Service Organizations in Ontario
211Ontario.ca consolidates the many existing local sources of Ontario
human services data into standardized provincial databases. In addition
to the Ontario Aboriginal Calendar and using information from the
database, 211Ontario.ca will
also host an online directory of Aboriginal service organizations
in Ontario under useful topic headings such as youth, housing and
health. Service providers can submit information about their organizations,
programs and services, and update their information online.
We hope that you will find the Ontario Aboriginal Calendar a useful
tool in promoting your services and events. Your feedback and comments
are welcome. Contact info@211Ontario.ca.
